How Be My Eyes Workplace Is Transforming Accessibility at Work

Traditional screen readers are essential, but inaccessible PDFs, screenshots, complex spreadsheets, and unlabeled buttons can still create friction for blind and low-vision employees. A recent look at Be My Eyes Workplace in action shows how AI-powered visual assistance fills those gaps. Employees can converse with AI to extract specific details from tricky documents, inspect photos of damaged items for customer support, and even connect securely with sighted colleagues when live assistance is needed.

Three smartphones against a bright blue background. The phone on the left shows a mostly white screen with the Be My Eyes blue circular logo near the top. Under the logo there is a single line of Chinese text. At the bottom are two circular buttons: a red one with a white phone icon tilted down (end call) on the left, and a green one with a white phone icon tilted up (answer) on the right. A small bit of green is visible at the bottom-right edge of the screen. The phone in the center displays a vertical photo of a street with a light-colored multi-story building that has many windows and a shop at ground level. The street and part of the sidewalk are visible at the bottom of the screen. The phone on the right shows a solid blue screen with large white Chinese characters in the middle that translate to “Contact volunteers.” Below that is a white rectangular button with Chinese text inside. Under the button is a smaller white bar with a thin gray border and faint text. At the bottom of the screen are two small icons on a white strip: the Be My Eyes logo on the left and another simple icon on the right. Two smartphones against a solid bright blue background. The phone on the left shows a colorful weather radar map centered on Dallas, Texas. The map has bands of green, yellow, orange, and red indicating different precipitation intensities, with red and orange areas concentrated over and around Dallas. Surrounding city names such as Plano and Garland are visible, along with highway numbers. At the bottom of this phone’s screen is a white panel with text describing the image as a weather radar map over the Dallas–Fort Worth area and noting that the heaviest weather appears to be over Dallas and moving northwest. Below that are two blue buttons labeled “Take picture” and “Ask more,” with an icon bar along the very bottom resembling a navigation bar from an app. The phone on the right shows a brown chicken standing on bright green grass, facing to the right. Large group of runners and guides wearing bright yellow shirts gathered together for a race photo. Most shirts have the word “Achilles” and many also say “GUIDE” in large letters on the front, along with race bib numbers pinned to them. People are of varied ages, genders, and body types, with a mix of skin tones from light to dark. Some participants use wheelchairs or racing chairs, and one person near the front has a prosthetic leg. Several people are holding service dogs in yellow vests, and one golden-colored dog is clearly visible on the left side. The group is smiling and raising their hands or giving thumbs up, creating a celebratory feeling. In the center background, a green canopy tent with the TD logo is set up, and under it a person is speaking into a microphone with arms raised. On the right side, a large blue sign reads “Prize Giveaway.” Behind the group is a curved stone wall, suggesting the event is taking place in an outdoor plaza or park area.

DIY Smart Home Tech with Be My Eyes

When Rob set out to automate his home, he knew he had the technical know-how, but he just needed a quick pair of eyes to distinguish the wires. By using Be My Eyes, Rob connected with volunteers call-by-call to safely identify each wire and successfully install 13 smart light switches (along with a fleet of voice-controlled devices). Beyond the DIY triumph, Rob shares how these quick calls often turn into memorable human connections with volunteers from all over the world.
